Villa Shodhan

Modern era, Architecture & Design, Havelis & Private Residences
Approximate Distance From Where You Are: 0.46 Kilometer

Villa Shodhan was built for the Shodhan family by Swiss architect Le Corbusier in the 1950s. It is a classic example of the domestic architecture of Le Corbusier, a master of modernist architecture.

Le Corbusier was commissioned by some industrialists of Ahmedabad to design their houses. Villa Shodhan is considered one of his finest domestic architectural works. Shyamubhai Shodhan accepted the plans that Corbusier had made for another mill owner and the house was constructed for him.

Keeping with Corbusier’s style, a ramp provides access to the main and mezzanine levels, while the rooms are grouped around a triple-height terrace. The terrace is part of the natural climate control process and is also thickly planted with vegetation.

MOST POPULAR ATTRACTION

The architect also used Ahmedabad’s culture and style while designing the Villa. The best feature of this Villa is the incorporation of nature into design.
