Jyoti Sangh is an organization that works for the empowerment of women. It was established by Mridula Sarabhai in 1934.

Mridula Sarabhai was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and mentored by Jawaharlal Nehru. As a child she worked with the child activist group of the Congress, called the Vanara Sena, and carried messages and water for the satyagrahis. She joined the Congress Seva Dal and organized the boycott of foreign cloth and British goods.

British imprisoned for her role in salt satyagraha.

She and other women activists established the Jyoti Sangh in 1934. The ceremonial foundation was laid by Mahatma Gandhi.

Jyoti Sangh empowered women with education, skill development and entrepreneurship support. There was a library for women to become open to contemporary ideas and eminent people were invited to address women through lectures. The Jyoti Sangh also extended support to women who were facing domestic violence or any other form of abuse.

This organisation played an important role in bringing women to public life. The women of Jyoti Sangh were active during the Quit India Movement.

In the old building of the NGO, Jyotisangh Vikas Yatra Museum is a permanent exhibition depicting the journey of women’s emancipation during the freedom movement and the role of Jyoti Sangh in bringing women to public life.

From Mridula Sarabhai’s satyagraha activities to the Charuben Yoddha who rescued oppressed women even at gunpoint, the museum explores the work of different women activists.
