The palatial mansion of Sir Chinubhai Baronet is built in the Indo-Gothic or renaissance style that was popular in the early 20th century. This mansion is an excellent example of public support for heritage conservation as the residents of Shilalekh Cooperative Society rallied around to protest the demolition of this historical residence.
Sir Chinubhai Madhavlal Ranchhodlal was the first Hindu Baronet of British India. He was awarded the Baronet of Shahpur CIE. He was also appointed as a member of the Legislative Council of Bombay.
A textile industrialist and grandson of Ahmedabad’s textile mill pioneer Ranchholal Chhotalal, Chinubhai donated generously for many causes like education, healthcare and the arts.
The mansion can be accessed through the Shilalekh complex of apartment buildings. You can see the impressive façade and decorative features of the building’s exteriors.
The haveli is spread over approximately two acres whose façade is a depiction of the Victorian architecture, with elements of old Amdavadi mosaic patterns.
