Darya Khan’s mausoleum is the largest tomb in Ahmedabad. It is also unusual in being built from brick.
This tomb was built in 1453 in honor of Darya Khan, a nobleman in the court of Sultan Ahmed Shah.
As you approach the tomb you can see the huge white dome over the building. This monument is unique in being the only entirely brick-built tomb in Ahmedabad.
The brick arches are inspired by Persian architecture. The central chamber is surrounded by a circular corridor where you may see rope makers at work.
There is a large drum that is used during prayers in the hall.
The Ghummat is the largest brick dome in Gujarat made of brick with a nine feet thick wall. The tomb is made of arches and domes which create a cavernous interior. A large central dome is surrounded by sixteen smaller domes and there are five entrances on each of the four sides of the structure.
